　　五、内容简介：

　　English-medium instruction (EMI), which generally refers to the teaching of non-language academic subjects in English, is gaining momentum in university settings across the globe.Particularly in many English-as-a-foreign-language (EFL) contexts, an increasing number of university content-area teachers are encouraged to take up EMI teaching in line with their institutions’ agenda to attract international students and enhance global competitiveness. In this presentation, I first present a qualitative study that investigates how university teachers plan, enact, and develop their EMI courses in a comprehensive university in China. Based on the research findings, I further outline three critical issues that confront current EMI practice, namely, 1) promoting content-language integration, 2) maximizing the potential of translanguaging, and 3) supporting EMI teacher education. Practical implications regarding the reform and improvement of current EMI practice in Chinese higher education will also be discussed.

　　六、嘉宾简介：

　　Rui Yuan is an associate professor in the Faculty of Education, University of Macau, Macau, China. His research focuses on teachers’ cognition, emotions and identities, teacher educators’ professional practice and development, as well as English-medium instruction (EMI) in higher education. He has published extensively on these research topics in a number of international journals, including Teaching and Teacher Education, TESOL Quarterly, Language Teaching Research, and Thinking Skills and Creativity.
